description

The ABI QuantStudio5 qPCR thermal cycler would be the best addition to the schools bank of equipment; I have looked at the other manufacturer's instruments and have based my selection on the following, unique and beneficial features of this instrument:

  • The instrument does 6plex, whereas the others are 5plex, this capability will also cover every probe that users may want to use (FAM™/SYBR™ Green, VIC™/JOE™/HEX™/TET™, ABY™/NED™/TAMRA™/Cy®3, JUN™, ROX™/Texas Red™, Mustang Purple™, Cy®5/LIZ™, Cy®5.5).
Has 6 independent temperature zones in the block which allows for faster and cheaper optimisation of new targets.
It's supplied with a laptop, which means users can download data while the instrument is running without risk of affecting other people's data, other instruments have in built systems.
The software is available without licence which means all users can download the software to their own computer to analyse their data on or off campus.
Software is compatible with PC and MAC.
The instrument is able to be calibrated by the user rather than having to be done by the manufacturer, this will reduce future service contract costs.
