Summary
The National Employment Savings Trust (“NEST”) is a defined contribution trust based occupational pension scheme and is a qualifying scheme for auto-enrolment purposes under the Pensions Act 2008. NEST is expected to have millions of members, many of whom will never have saved before in a pension scheme. It is vital for our members that they have a high quality, low charge product which they can trust to deliver acceptable outcomes. A well designed investment approach is a key element of the scheme.
Description
The current fund selection for NEST members comprises the NEST Retirement Date Funds (NRDFs), 47 single year target date funds which act as the default strategy, and five fund choices; namely the Higher Risk Fund, the Lower Growth Fund, the Ethical Fund, the Sharia Fund and the Pre-retirement Fund. Each NEST fund operates as a white labelled fund of third party “building block” funds. The NEST Trustee Members determine the asset allocation of the funds while external fund managers invest in a variety of specific asset classes.
NEST is now looking to add an actively managed Global Emerging Market Debt fund to the range of building blocks. The search is for a pooled fund (phase 1) with the option to transition to a segregated mandate (phase 2) at a later stage.
