Provision of Rail Freight Data

The ONS is looking to identify and engage with industry partners to help bring third party data and/or expertise to access better and more relevant data sources. This will help improve the quality and usefulness of official statistics about our population, society and economy that decision makers, businesses and citizens so urgently need.

ONS is seeking to develop partnerships with organisations that hold information about rail freight between the UK and Europe via the Eurotunnel.

ONS are interested in the following data:

• oRail freight tonnage, loaded directly onto trains, not recorded via Lorry/HGV
• oRevenue from carrying rail freight through the Eurotunnel
• oAverage freight rate per tonne

The types of organisations that should consider contacting us include:

• oRail freight carriers licensed to freight goods through the Eurotunnel
• oOrganisations that compile data, based on rail freight carriers licensed to freight goods through the Eurotunnel

Types of support could include:

• oPermission to responsibly scrape data from websites, or to use public APIs
• oProvision of private APIs or other arrangements for retrieving data
• oSupply of bulk data extracts
• oSupply of relevant metadata and/or documentation on how data enters the system and how it is processed.
• oProvision of aggregated data as defined by ONS
