description
The External Validation of School Self Review & Evaluation
The Department is looking to appoint an individual or organisation who would wish to be considered for providing an External Validation of the School Self Review and Evaluation process carried out by schools on the Isle of Man.
The Isle of Man is a self-governing Crown Dependency and, as such, the Department of Education and Children (DEC) is a Department of the Isle of Man Government with no direct relationship with the Department for Education in England. This means the Department is unusual, compared to the UK context, in having dual responsibilities both for the direction of policies for education as well as for the administrative functions normally associated with a Local Authority.
In 2005 the Department introduced School Self Review and Evaluation (SSRE) as a significant component of the quality assurance of provision that it is required to undertake under Section 50 of the Isle of Man's Education Act (2001). At the time this was a very new approach to quality assurance in that it fully involved the schools in monitoring and evaluating their own performance and reporting on the judgments they were making to Department Officers.
The External Validation of the School Self Review and Evaluation process, carried out by schools on the Isle of Man, will involve validation events at 32 primary schools and 5 secondary schools in the period September 2017 to July 2020 following a pattern of:
2017/18 - 1...ocument, which provides judgments for each section of the SSRE together with a supporting commentary. The SSRE process is integral to the school improvement planning cycle and it is therefore critical that the judgments reached are reliable and based on a good range of evidence. The External Validation process will provide an independent view of the reliability of the school's judgments within its SSRE. The contractor will be appointed to lead the 3 year cycle of validations.
