description
This requirement is for a Licensed Internet Archive within the Growth, Environment and Transport Directorate and the Libraries, Registration and Archives service. The Archive Service holds around 14 kms of historic material but most of this material is only available to customers visiting the Kent History and Library Centre in Maidstone. Archive records which are name rich, in particular parish registers, which record baptism, marriages and burials from 1538 - 1910, are the most heavily used records, especially for family history. There is also demand for the information in them from people in other countries especially the US and Australia. This project will digitise and index the selective archive collections in order to achieve: Wider access to the archive collection for the customer, opening up the collections to a much larger audience and addressing current inequalities of access Long term sustainability of the collections as they will not need to be handled so often The continued progression of the service to engage new customers and offering a digital solution reducing demand on face to face services The generation of income for The Council (the Council), Libraries, Registration and Archives (LRA) and a way to negate the significant costs digitisation involves The Council requires the Tenderer to offer a remuneration package plus deliver the process of uplifting the information from physical to Digital form, as described in Section 3 - the Requirement. The contract is anticipated to commence upon 18/7/16 and will continue for a period of 3 years, with an option to extend for a further 2 x 12 months unless terminated in accordance with the Conditions of Contract on the Kent Business Portal. All documentation is available as attachments and the process will involve an electronic Auction.
