Background information
The IPCC’s 2015 – 2016 Business plan and its Home Office funded change programme both identify the need for the IPCC to build upon its current reporting of disciplinary and criminal outcomes that have resulted from
its investigations and subsequent recommendations to Appropriate Authority (usually police Forces). This will build on work recently undertaken to defined the dataset to be captured, some use case analysis that took place in Summer 2014 and an agile development work undertaken in 2014 on the IPCC’s current intranet platform.
The project will enable the IPCC’s research team and force liaison managers to report on disciplinary and criminal outcomes and inform operational decision-making across the IPCC then will embed this data capture as part of the operational day to day and improving on reporting.
The Alpha first phase of the project will enable a small number of staff in the IPCC’s Strategy and Impact directorate to capture, using user-friendly, intuitive forms design that reflects the logic of how various outcomes are attained, and enable data about allegations against parties and the subsequent disciplinary or criminal outcomes to be captured. The objective is to avoid current manual retrospective processes and to avoid duplication across different existing spreadsheet based systems and also to provide simple views of the data that can be exported and allow the research team to manipulate further. This phase is envisaged as being July – through to September.
