description

Invitation To Tender for Science-Grade Optical Tables and Breadboards

The National Physical Laboratory [NPL] has recently completed the build of an Advanced Quantum Metrology Laboratory, whose remit is to house optical atomic clock and frequency transfer systems as part of the UK timescale and facilitate innovative R&D projects for NPL science staff, as well as host visiting external partners for various Test and Measurement projects. A variety of optical tables and breadboards are required to support these experimental activities. The requirements on the specification of the tables vary by use, but in general they are required to have science-grade vibration damping and structural properties commensurate with the needs of laser spectroscopy activities, in some cases requiring active self-levelling support structures. Some experiments have a sensitivity to magnetic fields and therefore require table systems constructed from non-magnetic materials. Number of tables specified, sizes or ranges of sizes, and other specifications are individual to the research needs in each laboratory space.
