description

The proposed research project is to understand the potential for Eco-driving to significantly reduce carbon emissions by Carbon Budget 5 (2032). Eco-driving includes both driver training lessons and also the in-cab technology used to aid and monitor this, as well as the monitoring done by operators to incentivise continuous eco-driving behaviours. This will involve asking questions about the current uptake and predicted future uptake, the costs involved with these measure, other barriers, the potential levels of carbon abatement and the wider impacts on air quality etc. We are also looking for the research to suggest potential policy options that could be implemented to achieve these savings. A key part of the research will be focusing on smaller operators as we know these operators are less likely to be currently undertaking eco-driving behaviour so we are particularly keen to understand why and how we can influence them.
