description
RWM requires the successful tenderer of Bats category 3 to update the Waste Package Accident Performance (WPAP) status report. The WPAP status report is a component of the Disposal System Safety Case (DSSC) and provides a summary of the state of knowledge of the field of WPAP. The previous update to the DSSC was in 2016. This was a major update in which all of the component documents were updated, including the WPAP status report. Since that time, a substantial volume of work, as part of a large solution-based contract, has been completed or is nearing completion. It is an appropriate time to update the status report to reflect the current state of knowledge. The contents of the reports delivered by large research programme since the last update are required to be summarised and incorporated into this status report. In addition, updates to the current assumptions about accident scenarios, respirable particle size, and the updated methodology to assess robust shielded intermediate level waste (RSILW) containers must also be included in the update. Future research needs following recent research activities must be captured in the science and technology (S&T) plan [ ]. These needs may have been suggested in the recent work, or aspects of the existing S&T plan task sheets that have not been fully addressed, and should be captured in the form of proposed task sheets. The delivery of a status report that is advanced to "ready for external peer review" has been adopted as part of a corporate target for RWM to be delivered by 31 March 2022.
