description

HS2 is at the heart of the Government's plans to build back better from the pandemic, creating thousands of jobs and providing certainty at a time when people need it the most. The railway is a long-term investment which will bring our biggest cities closer together, boost productivity and provide a low-carbon alternative to cars and planes for many decades to come.

This project is delivered by HS2 Ltd - a corporate body established in January 2009 by incorporation under the Companies Act 2006 and limited by guarantee. The Secretary of State for Transport is its 'sole member', for whom it is remitted to undertake work.

There a two Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) that have their final terms ending in March and May 2023 respectively along with one existing NED vacancy on the HS2 Ltd Board. We are therefore looking to recruit at least 3 NEDs to replace those leaving the Board with similar skills plus augmenting other skills that will be required by the HS2 Ltd Board to support the future delivery of the HS2 Programme. We may recruit an additional NED depending on the mix of skills found in the potential candidates.

We are looking for candidates that can demonstrate the following:

-Ability to apply independent judgement, challenge and support to drive value for money for the taxpayer
-Experience in leading, coaching and supporting in a complex setting
-Excellent communication and stakeholder skills

In addition to the essential criteria, candidates should have technical skills in at least one of the following areas:

-Digital/systems integration
-Commercial appraisal and corporate finance
-Audit
-Large civil engineering or complex commercial arrangements at scale
-Environment
