Selby District Council is the local Licencing Authority for hackney carriages (taxis) and private hire vehicles. The council currently licenses 46 hackney carriages and 100 private hire vehicles subject to a hackney carriage and private hire vehicle inspection as set out in the Freight Transport Associations best practice guide to inspection of Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Vehicles. The guide can be viewed by clicking on the following link: http://www.fta.co.uk/export/sites/fta/_galleries/downloads/vehicl e _testing/Hackney_Carriage_document_0812.pdf Currently there are approximately 260 vehicle inspections required per annum and the council is seeking a suitably accredited / qualified organisation to provide the inspection service as specified within this document. The initial contract will be for a period of 3 years and may be extended for a further period of up to 2 years
