description

Butterburn bridge carries the U1241 road over the Butter Burn (not a main river). The bridge lies approximately 10km to the east of the village of Bewcastle. It is a single span structure comprising of rolled steel joints encased in concrete. Works to this asset were undertaken in 2018. Details of which can be reviewed in the attached Completion Report, titled 'MET-1232-CA184-ST-REP-00001_iss1_rev0'.

The bridge requires repair of the gabion baskets which are reported to have collapsed and washed out. Therefore, these require replacement, remove stone from both layers of existing gabion baskets, place new gabion baskets on same foundation and refil using reclaimed stone from existing baskets. Back fill voids behind new baskets with no fines concrete.
