description

East Sussex County Council is offering providers the opportunity to bid in an Open Tender process for the provision of the extra care housing (care and support) service at Downlands Court (Peacehaven) and Margaret House (Uckfield). This tender is being let in one lot and the successful provider will be contracted to provide services at both extra care facilities.

Extra care housing schemes provide homes for older people who are tenants/leaseholders in a community setting whilst ensuring that their housing, social and health care needs are met within a secure environment with housing support and housing management services and a 24 hour 7 days a week care and support service. The schemes aim to offer an alternative to residential care for some older people who are eligible for this service, including those with learning disabilities and mental health needs.

The building has been designed to support good care and support practice using experience gained from both national guidance and previous schemes. Extensive research has taken place to inform the building design with the needs of people with physical and sensory impairments, people living with dementia and carers in mind.

The buildings provide a range of facilities on site which as a minimum may include access to communal rooms, café/ restaurant, buggy store, laundry, assisted bathroom, IT suite and landscaped garden/roof terrace.

The intention of the schemes as a whole is to provide a focal point for the local community whilst preventing the social exclusion of Adults with Care and Support Needs through enabling them to access mainstream facilities.

The successful provider is expected to staff a 24 hour waking night Care and Support service

The successful provider will be required to liaise and collaborate regularly with the Landlord and the providers of housing support and restaurant services in order to provide a seamless service to Adults with Care and Support Needs and their carers.
