description
OPEN EARLY MARKET ENGAGEMENT - this means that a procurement idea is currently active. It is in the early stage of development and judging interest from potential suppliers.
Hydrogen storage infrastructure will be critical in supporting the government's low carbon hydrogen production ambitions and the mission to achieve clean power by 2030. To enable this in the near term, hydrogen storage at scale will be required.
To support this ambition, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has started early strategic planning for a procurement or procurements for rights to store hydrogen in geological storage facilities, and support in remarketing/reselling those rights to end users.
The Department intends to commence early engagement with a range of potential suppliers in the geological hydrogen storage market to help inform the procurement strategy in a collaborative manner.
We will be conducting a series of early market engagement activities between late 2024 and mid-2025 which may include but are not limited to:
- Surveys and questionnaires
- 1 to 1 meetings
- Focus groups
- Supplier days
- Webinars
We intend to hold a first meeting with interested suppliers on 11th December at 9.30am (subject to change).
Feedback from suppliers of hydrogen storage via these activities will help inform thinking and shape a future procurement strategy.
If you are interested in this potential opportunity, DESNZ would like to engage with you. Please contact the Department by emailing hydrogenstoragebusinessmodel@energysecurity.gov.uk with your company details, including high level information about your storage facility project.
*** This is early market engagement for a potential opportunity. The Department is not obligated to run a procurement following this activity and is not liable for any costs associated with participating in this early engagement. ***
