Response of aquatic wildlife - application of stringent wastewater tertiary treatment

Objectives

Review chemical determinands measured for site downstream of the STP for changes in chemistry before, during and after GAC treatment.

•Review habitat quality for invertebrates from macrophyte and RHS information

•Plot macroinvertebrate scores (ASPT, BMWP etc) for each sampling site over duration of records

•Plot abundance of each macroinvertebrate family for each sampling site over duration of records

•Plot changes in diatom community over time as far as data permits.

•Examine communities before, during and after the GAC period. Do Pearson product-moment correlations for all forms of wildlife downstream of the STP against conductivity (a reliable marker of GAC activity but others may also be suitable). Identify if any statistically significant change in any wildlife occurred with respect to GAC operation. If changes in wildlife occurred associated with the GAC running, would they be indicated as beneficial under the WFD scoring system, in other words leading to higher BMWP, ASPT scores etc.
