SC23077 - Bridleway AW244 Chilmington

As part of Chilmington Development Project Ashford Borough Council want to use the existing

PROW network especially Public Bridleway AW244 area to improve resident access to the

countryside, the local school and other areas of the development. The works will make the paths

suitable for disabled users and fit in with the plans for making the woods and surrounding area

accessible by bicycle as well.

The requirement of this project is the creation of a surfaced bridleway leading from Ashford Road, Great Chart to Bucksford Lane, providing opportunities for people to use the bridleway to connect to the Great Chart village in one direction or get to Sevington Environmental Centre and our previous work in Coleman Kitchen Wood in the other direction. By doing this we hope to increase numbers into the local environment, increasing residents time spent outside promoting

green/healthy and active lifestyles. The works align with Ashford Borough Councils strategic

development for the Chilmington Development.

The work expected to be carried out by the successful contractor would be the excavation of the

existing ground to install a 2.5-metre-wide type 1 surfaced bridleway with timber edging. Due to

the width available we will also be leaving a grass strip to the side of the path, so Equestrians

Horse users have the option to use the surfaced route or the grass route. The contractor will also

be required to replace a field gate on the path as the current field gate is redundant.
