GREAT YARMOUTH BOROUGH COUNCIL

SELECTION OF TENDERERS

FOR

COAST PROTECTION ENGINEERING WORKS, SCRATBY, NORFOLK

Applications are invited from persons or firms wishing to be selected by the Council as Tenderers for coast protection engineering works at Scratby in Norfolk.

The work comprises the placement of a rock-filled, weld-mesh gabion cage structure at the foot of an existing sand dune running from the northern end of the existing rock berm below Little Scratby Crescent to a point below Newport Cottages. The structure is to follow the line of the existing dunes and will be approximately 877 metres in length. The structure comprises three layers of gabion cages 2m x 2m x 1m at the base, 2m x 1.5m x 1m as a second layer and 2m x 1m x 1m on top, all inclined at 6 degrees to the vertical. The gabion cages are to be placed on a layer of geofabric and filled using 75mm to 200mm sized reject stone.

In addition, the work includes the design, manufacture and placement of four sets of Disabled Access Regulations (DDA) compliant steps and handrails to provide pedestrian access to the beach either by going over or through the gabion cage structure.

The estimated cost of the work is £410,000.

It is anticipated that that Tender documents will be issued in August 2015 with an appointment made in September 2015 for a start on-site shortly afterwards. Works are expected to take up to five months. Please note that the contract award will be subject to the grant of landowner consents and the Council's decision making process.
