description

The Defence Collage of Technical Training (DCTT) Defence School of Electronic and Mechanical Engineering (DSEME) Metalsmith Department require quantity 9 Welding Augmented Simulators (AS) for the supply, installation and maintenance for a period of 4 years at MOD Lyneham in Wiltshire. The welding AS shall be provided with all the required associated components and a full suite of training aids.

A welding AS is a fundamental resource for a school aspiring to adopt a modern approach to teaching engineering at the City and Guilds Level 3 (Repair and Manufacture) in order to complete the Metalsmith Training Objectives (TO's). Practical work and the development of manual processes are fundamental to the training of a professional engineer.

The system should be networked without relying on the existing network infrastructure or the Defence network (Dii(f)) and suitable training is to be provided for all associated instructors, detailing all aspects of the simulator and the instillation.

The welding AS system must include, but is not limited to the following capabilities in the facility:

  • a.Capable of simulating the manual aspect of Metal Inert Gas (MIG), Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) and Manual Metal Arc (MMA); to include the real feel of having a torch in the trainees hand. This should include augmented (feel), visual and audio simulation.
  • b.Able to simulate the initial processes involved in setting up for MIG, TIG and MMA welding including gas settings.
  • c.The instrumentation and data logging systems should be capable of keeping long term records and be capable of comparison of said records.

The Contractor shall provide a maintenance service in the form of annual servicing including provision of any consumables for the servicing for a period of 3 years from installation date. The service shall include Callout Support to cover equipment failure. Faulty or unserviceable equipment shall be rectified or replacement components/systems supplied within 24 hours.

The Contractor will provide a period of training for the Metalsmith Trainers on all aspects of the Welding AS and provide comprehensive ‘user’ manuals to be retained by the Metalsmith Department.
