description

To collect river water samples (with the potential for collecting water samples from combined sewer overflows during the second phase of the study in summer 2023) in the river Ribble, Lancashire as part of the government's Pathogen Surveillance in Agriculture, Food and the Environment (PATH-SAFE) programme. Samples will be collected weekly and posted in temperature-controlled boxes by courier to designated laboratories in England.

Eleven river water samples will be collected weekly from the following locations, subject to accessibility and health and safety requirements.

Sampling duration:

Weekly samples will be collected from all sampling locations over a 13-week period between 2nd January and 29th March 2023 and over a 13-week period between 5th June and 30th August 2023.

Sample collection, shipping, and data recording:

Sample collection, transport and data recording will be carried out in accordance with the Cefas sampling protocol.
