Harlington Playground

  1. The Site

Harlington Playground, Bury Orchard, Harlington, Dunstable, Bedfordshire, LU5 6LE

  1. Aim

To remove all existing equipment and surfacing; supply and install new equipment including the installation of impact absorbing surfacing.

  1. Removal of Equipment

Removal of all existing equipment along with the current impact absorbing surfaces.

  1. Surfacing

Impact absorbing surfacing shall be provided beneath all items of play equipment regardless of critical fall height. The area to be surfaced shall be:

Either: (a) a minimum of 1.75m from the extremities of the individual item of equipment.

Or: (b) in accordance with BSEN 1176/1177

  1. Fencing Refurbishment

The replacement and installation of the two existing pedestrian gates, one to be a double width to meet current DDA requirements.

  1. Paving Refurbishment

The installation of a pathway to be created between the existing pedestrian gates.

  1. New Equipment

All equipment must be designed, manufactured and installed in accordance with BSEN 1176 and BSEN 1177. At the end of the contract the contractor will be required to certify in writing that this is the case and the length and terms of the warranty, including details of the minimum maintenance requirements and resistance to vandalism.

The equipment shall be suitable for use by children aged up to 12 years. It must include:

A tower multi play suitable for up to 12 years old including:
oAt least two slides, one of which shall be a double width slide
oScramble net access / Climbing Wall
oOne other access
oNet bridge
oMaximum height of 4m
A tower multi play suitable for up to 6 years including:
oAt least 1 slide
oPlayhouse / Shop / role play
oScramble net access
oRamp access
oBridge
Two flat swings
Two cradle swings
One parent and child swing
A basket swing
Circuit / Obstacle Course incorporating an a-framed scramble net
Two springer based toys
A shop / cafe panel for role-play
A zip line
Two benches
Two picnic benches (including table)
  1. Surfacing

All areas where bases have been removed shall be levelled and turfed in accordance in accordance with BS4428, BS2989 recommendations for general Landscape Operations. The contractor shall ensure that the correct grass seed mixture is used and that turves are in accordance with BS3969, BS1990 recommendations for turf for General Landscape Purposes. The grass shall be healthy, free of contaminant, of close texture and of even density.

The contractor should ensure that the surrounding areas and access routes are restored where reasonably identified by the client.
