Job Title: Team Leader - Building Control (Building Inspector Class 3 competency)
Rate of Pay: ?500pd
Hours: 37 hours per week
Location: Sandwell Council House, Freeth Street, Oldbury, B69 3DE/Hybrid working. Minimum of 2 days per week in-office, with flexibility required to meet the demands of the service.

Brief description:
We are looking for a Team Leader to oversee the day-to-day management of the Building Control Team.
Due to the recent change in legislation, the post-holder will be required to be a Class 3 registered Building Inspector and will be conducting the inspections of all Class 3 buildings for Sandwell MBC, along with other general sign-off within the area.
The candidate will be managing a team of 6, including one Senior Inspector, and will be responsible for the technical and professional leadership of the team, workload management and compliance with current legislation and operational requirements.
Key aspects of the role:
- oCompleting Class 3 Building Inspections, along with any other inspection workload within the team.
- oTo be responsible for the organisation and allocation of work with the team and ensuring that plans are assessed for compliance within the statutory timescales.
- oTo ensure inspections are carried out efficiently and in co-ordination with other departments as required.
- oTo represent the Council and be responsible for the issuing of statutory notices and instigation of proceedings under the Building Act and other relevant legislation.
- oTo act as the Council's lead technical officer in relation to the implementation of statutory responsibilities of the Safety of Sports Grounds Act and the Fire Safety and Safety of Places of Sport Act 1987.
- oSupervising and signing off level 1 trainee work, to include plan vetting and inspections.
Qualification Requirements:
- oPossession of a relevant degree or equivalent qualification.
- oMembership of a professional body representing Building Control.
The candidate must be able to travel across the borough to various sites.
Experience:
- oExperience of supervision.
- oExperience of communicating, liaising with elected members, groups, members of the public and external bodies.
- oExperience of assessing and checking Building Regulations applications relating to public service and commercial buildings.
- oExperience of dealing with dangerous structures.
- oExperience of dealing with BC Enforcement cases.
