description
Milton Keynes Council has received an allocation of funding from the Special Provision Capital Fund from the DfE. The Special Provision fund allocations are to support Local Authorities to make capital investments in provision for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities. Councils can invest in new places and improvements to facilities for pupils with Education Health and Care (EHC) plans in mainstream and special schools, amongst other establishments. Local Authorities have a statutory duty to ensure that a school place is available for every child. Based on place planning projections it is anticipated that there will be an increase in the number of places required in special schools and for high need pupils in mainstream schools. The schools identified would not be able to take these pupils without the need for changes to their buildings.
St Pauls Catholic School has been identified to receive a portion of the funding allocation and will form Phase 5 of the overall SEND Capital programme. This project is to create a stand-alone SEND Unit comprising of teaching and admin spaces to address the need for specialist school places in the secondary sector in Milton Keynes.
The Council will be the Client for this project and will be appointing a Professional Services team comprising of Architect, who will be responsible for the appointment and management of a design team, a Quantity Surveyor and CDMC advisor. The appointed Professional Services and Contractor team are expected to work collaboratively together to achieve a successful outcome for the project.
The Client will manage the End User and stakeholders for the project and will make the project team aware of whom the stakeholders are and their level of engagement in the process and it is expected the Contractor/Design Team will participate in this process as required.
