description
The Museum of Science and Industry (MSI) is seeking to appoint a design team that will provide a comprehensive design service for delivery of the Special Exhibition Gallery project.
MSI has been building its exhibition programme over the last three years, testing new ideas and developing an audience for contemporary science programming. This programme has been extremely well received, with recent highlights including, Collider, Wellcome Image Awards and 3D: Printing the Future.
Whilst there is demand in the city for world-class temporary science exhibitions, currently there is nowhere on site where MSI can hold exhibitions of this scale.
The vision for the project is to create an exceptional 'canvas' on which MSI can exhibit a wide range of temporary exhibitions. The approach will be about creating the best possible gallery footprint, beautifully executed in design, highly functional and adaptable.
The design will deliver an elegant solution for a complicated site, unifying a complex set of spaces to create one coherent place. A sensitive architectural intervention will respect and reveal heritage of the buildings. The creation of a new entrance will intuitively draw visitors to the gallery and create an external indication of the ambitious changes at MSI.
