Provision of Group Structure Data and Financial Market Engagement

ONS currently has separate contracts with two different commercial providers providing similar data on UK businesses and their links to domestic and overseas parents and subsidiaries. (Business Groups).

This procurement intends to fulfil requirements with a single supplier and will enable the authority to improve the quality and usefulness of official statistics on the financial sector and international investment.

ONS is seeking to establish a contract with an organisation that can provide the following data and information as a minimum: -

• oLinkages of Businesses (legal entities) based on share ownership. To include all UK businesses and their links to both domestic and foreign entities based on a threshold of 10% or greater voting share ownership. This will form a group of businesses linked by ownership.
• oRequired variables for all businesses would include as a minimum legal name, address, Company Registration Number, classification, date on incorporation, active maker/status.
• oCorresponding financial data (balance sheet and profit and loss account information) for the UK businesses (ideally on an individual company rather than a consolidated basis).
• oONS require suppliers to provide unique business identifiers (not proprietary) which will allow ONS to replicate the linkages on internal systems. For example, data will be held on our Statistical Business Register which is the main sampling frame for ONS economic surveys.
• oONS are also looking to seek information from organisations who can provide an API function to potentially access/receive linkage information and financial asset data in a live feed.

ONS has a number of questions relating to APIs, these questions will help inform and develop the requirements.
