Under planning conditions for the construction of the Marlow Flood Alleviation Scheme, the Environment Agency is required to undertake archaeological strip, map, and sample excavations (Pound Lane, Marlow). These are planned to be undertaken during the Summer/Autumn of 2015. Construction works are planned to start in spring 2016. The archaeological contractor will also carry out watching briefs during these works. The size of the site is c. 11 hectares and has already been subject to geophysical, geo-archaeological and trial trench investigation. The site occupies an area of gravel islands and palaeo-channels with proven Neolithic enclosures and settlement, and Bronze Age barrows. Note: the contractor should be a Registered Organisation with the CIfA or equivalent body.
