description

The aim of this work is to undertake a detailed feasibility study into developing a district heat network for Maidstone in Kent. The study will involve investigating economic and technical viability including, heat demand, network design, financial and business modelling, customer contractual arrangements, licencing and consenting, funding and delivery approach up to business case. In particular the County Council sees this study as the foundation stone for an investment grade project. Alongside sound technical and commercial advice there is also the opportunity for innovation in the development of the proposals. The funding for this work is being provided by a grant award from the Government's Heat Network Delivery Fund and the County Council. Prior to this award the County Council has done studies to identify the potential for heat networks in Kent including pre-feasibility work which confirmed Maidstone as a location worthy of full feasibility study. The development of a heat network is consistent with the County Council's strategic aims in respect of increasing energy efficiency, supporting low carbon generation, maintaining secure and affordable energy supplies, and reducing carbon emissions.
