description
The National Physical Laboratory's requirement is for two high-speed imaging cameras, of the same specification, that can be used in conjunction with a high-speed mechanical test frame to enable the measurement of full-field strain distributions on test coupons at speeds of up to 20 m/s. The cameras must be compatible with and registered on LaVision® digital image correlation (DIC) systems.
Two cameras are required to image the front and side of coupons in order for engineering strain to be calculated. The cameras will also be used for quasi-static test failure analysis. This capability will fulfil NPL's core role as an National Measurement Institute (NMI) as it will enable a more complete understanding of material rate dependent behaviour, thereby ensuring that NPL can deliver highest point of reference physical material property data to industry, as well as increasing traceability of measurements and enabling digitalisation of test.
