description

This tender is for the application of a treatment which will arrest the deterioration of micro-surfacing road surfaces that are exhibiting signs of premature failure. The sites are in the Oldham area of the North West of England.

Although the surfacing is still intact it has been tested and found to be oxidizing at a rate that may result in premature failure. The treatment we require therefore is to seal the surface and prevent any further oxidation.

The surface has only a low texture as would be expected with a 3 year old micro-surfacing, it is important that we do not reduce this any further in the long term by the addition of this treatment. Therefore we require a penetrative product containing a significant amount of hard wearing durable Gilsonite or equivalent.

In line with RSTA guidance we are looking to extend the life of this surfacing by a minimum of 5 years, therefore any product accepted shall come with a minimum 2 year guarantee of preserving the existing road constituent properties. The constituent properties shall be assessed by an independent consultant using their choice of UKAS lab appointed by the authority.
