NHS Walsall Clinical Commissioning Group is working closely with Walsall Council to improve the timely diagnosis and services for people with dementia. NHS Walsall CCG is seeking expressions of interest from suitably knowledgeable and qualified organisations able to evidence the necessary experience, skills and ability to provide the following service:
Six Personal Assistants – Dementia (PADs), to support people soon after a diagnosis of dementia, together with support for their family who may or may not be carers, for a period of up to three months from diagnosis. This service will receive referrals from and work very closely with Walsall Memory Assessment Service and Walsall learning disability services.
The PADs will provide support, information, practical assistance in the home and signpost to other forms of long-term support. This service forms part of Walsall’s implementation of the dementia strategy. Organisations interested in expressing an interest should first consider the essential requirements listed below:
•Experience in the provision of delivering specialised services to people with dementia and their carers •Staff qualified, skilled and competent to work with people with dementia and their carers •Evidence of suitable adult/child protection, safeguarding policies and procedures
•Ability to provide monitoring data on a quarterly basis
Expressions of interest from the Voluntary and Community Sector are encouraged.
The contract will be for a period of 3 years, with the possibility of extension for a further 2 periods of 12 months.
As future numbers of referrals are difficult to predict, NHS Walsall reserves the right to decrease or increase the number of PADs required during the lifetime of the contract. Spend is circa £183,000 per annum with a total Contract value of circa £915,000. Figures provided are estimates only and should not be taken as a guarantee of activity.

further 2 periods of 12 months.
