Provision of a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)

As a part of a planned sourcing activity for the provision of a scanning electron microscope (SEM), Public Health England (PHE) are organising Supplier Engagement Events. During these events, suppliers will be asked to provide an equipment demonstration and give a short presentation about their proposed solution.

PHE is planning to procure a scanning electron microscope (SEM) for use in its Porton Down National Infection Service (NIS) laboratories. The scanning electron microscope must be of the field emission gun type and be suitable for a wide range of applications e.g. clinical diagnostic investigations, biomedical research (bacteriology, virology, mycology, cell biology, parasitology and entomology) and examination of environmental samples.

Although this will be a capital purchase, it is intended that any service and support will be covered for the lifetime of the equipment or until PHE re-tenders the requirement. Any equipment and services being offered must support International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2008 and 15189:2012 quality management standards under which PHE is operating.

The Supplier Engagement Events are organised with a view to providing PHE with insights which will inform the specifications. The events will also be used to alert the market to the upcoming opportunity, provide the provisional project timescales, tender process and desired outcomes.
