A49 Goose Green to Westwood Park Link Road

Wigan Council is seeking to provide a new high capacity route into Wigan town centre from the south of the borough, improving access to the town centre and to the motorway network. The proposed A49 Goose Green to Westwood Park Link Road is a connection from the A49 Warrington Road at Goose Green to Westwood Park, north of Pearson's Flash. To achieve this aim Wigan Council is seeking to appoint one preferred bidder to complete design work and construct the A49 Goose Green to Westwood Park Link Road.

The scheme will consist of one of the following options: (i) Approximately 0.9 km of new dual 2-lane carriageway which includes an upgrade from single 2 lane to dual 2-lane carriageway along the existing Westwood Park internal access road. Additionally, approximately 1.4 km of single 2-lane carriageway with full infrastructure construction to accommodate future dual carriageway. The scheme will incorporate three major structures to bridge existing watercourses, canals and a primary road; or (ii) Approximately 2.3 km of new dual 2-lane carriageway which includes an upgrade from single 2 lane to dual 2-lane carriageway along the existing Westwood Park internal access road. The scheme will incorporate three major structures to bridge existing watercourses, canals and a primary road.
