description
Accidental injuries are a considerable health problem throughout the United Kingdom. They are the most common cause of death in children over one year of age. Every year they leave many thousands permanently disabled or disfigured. More than one million children under the age of 15 experience accidents in and around the home every year, for which they are taken to accident and emergency units. Many more are treated by GPs and by parents and carers. Those most at risk from a home accident are the 0-4 years age group. Falls account for the majority of non-fatal accidents while the highest number of deaths are due to fire. Most of these accidents are preventable through increased awareness, improvements in the home environment and greater product safety (Royal Society Prevention of Accidents ROSPA 2013). Halton Borough Council is proud to offer an opportunity for an experienced and suitably qualified provider who will visit and install safety equipment for up to 110 vulnerable families in the Halton area. This scheme involves the supply and fitting by the contractor of safety equipment, including items such as safety gates and fireguards, to identified families particularly with vulnerable children or adults. The service will be expected to work closely with health and social care professionals and particularly the Children's Centres in identifying the vulnerable families that require this service. Halton Borough Social Care is committed to providing high quality services for our diverse community. We invite only professional, reliable, financially viable providers to help us achieve our vision: We will enable children and young people to feel valued, happy, healthy and safe and to achieve their full potential. The service has an indicative budget of £8000 per annum. The extension of the contract is subject to future funding and no work is guaranteed. Halton Borough Council is constantly looking for efficiencies/savings with all contracts.
