description

Alexander Street Retaining Wall is a gravity stone retaining wall structure with a solid brick parapet. It is approximately 2.2m high from the footway and the parapet is approx. 1.2m high. The structure forms the southern boundary of house Nos. 17 - 43 Alexander Street. It is understood that it is a private wall, jointly owned by owners of the these properties.

The retaining wall is approximately 2.2 metres high from lower ground level (this figure varies slightly along the wall's length) and the parapet wall is a further 1.2 metres high.

Following General inspection by Wigan Council and found to be bulging and contained various structural cracks along its length, a principal inspection was carried out in April 2016 by an independent Consultant, confirming that the wall did need reconstructing.

The works will involve the demolition and rebuild of this wall.
