description

NHS England has a requirement to engage a suitably qualified organisation in the field of criminal justice "Liaison and Diversion" (LD) services. LD services provide identification, assessment and referral of people with mental health and substance misuse/other vulnerabilities, whilst they are in police custody and courts, to appropriate community health and social care services.

The overarching of outcome of LD services is to support service users to engage or re-engage with health services as they re-enter the community from police custody and to make recommendations to criminal justice agencies including Police, Crown Prosecution Service and Courts as to possible community health interventions that will support service user needs and also reduce re-offending.

As the rollout of LD continues nationally, there is a need to support both commissioners and providers of new and emergent services as they go through start up and head to Business as Usual. It is proposed that this is delivered through the Field Support Service.
