description
In June this year, the UK Government accepted the Committee's advice on the setting of a net-zero GHG target by 2050; this has now been legislated by Parliament. Achieving net-zero in the UK would stop the UK's contribution to global warming and lead the global effort to limit global average temperature increases to 1.5°C.
The net zero target requires emissions reduction from all sectors of the economy, including agriculture and land use, land use change and forestry (LULUCF) sectors. The emissions reduction pathways consistent with the net zero advice ('Further ambition scenario'), implied combined emissions from these two sectors declining by 60% by 2050 compared with 2017 levels. This pathway was informed by previous analysis undertaken for the CCC's 2018 Land Use report, which considered how land use needed to change in the UK to meet climate change mitigation and adaptation goals. *** See specification for more detail ***
