ESCC NC - Highway Safety Barrier Service Inspections 16/17

East Sussex Highways require delivery of highway safety barrier service inspections to capture & undertake the following:

• Structural condition & integrity inspection, including compliance check with the requirements of TD19 and any recommendations for replacement and/or repair;

• Assessment of anticipated life expectancy of asset & suggested future maintenance inspection regime;

• Measurement of mounting height, barrier length & setback;

• Condition & type of surface protective treatment;

• Tensioned safety fence bolt tensioning check and resetting of torque to correct levels as appropriate;

• Site assessment of justification for barrier provision (i.e. type of hazardous roadside features present) and

• Record of proximity/connection to adjacent highway structures & parapets (e.g. bridges/culverts/retaining walls).

It is envisaged that this work will feed into the development of a more long term maintenance strategy for these assets and a risk based appraisal/policy for their future introduction/replacement.
