Provision of a Light Aeroplane & Light Aeroplane Trailer

The recent capital investment from the UK government through EPSRC has resulted in the creation of eight dedicated centres/facilities across the country covering key areas of transport, healthcare, manufacturing and unmanned systems to ensure that the UK will maintain its leading engineering and research capacity in RAS.

The Faculty of Engineering and the Environment is a world leader in the development of Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAV) for research purposes and as teaching tools. As one of the eight centres the University of Southampton is looking to extend its research by operating a variety of unmanned systems which cover land, sea and air.

Operations of UAV must comply with the Air Navigation Order and subordinate CAA regulations with the consequence that Beyond Visual Range (BVR) operations are restricted to an extent that impacts adversely on the development of long-range systems.

The Faculty envisages mounting the guidance and control elements of a long-range UAV system in a Light Aeroplane (LA) so that the capabilities of the equipment can be exercised over distances, and ranges from base, representative of the intended use.

Additional information: The University is utilising an electronic tendering tool (In-Tend: https://in-tendhost.co.uk/universityofsouthampton) to manage this procurement and to communicate with bidders. All documentation in relation to this tender can be downloaded from the In-Tend portal.

Bidders are advised that formal expressions of interest in the project must be by way of completion and return of the relevant Pre-Qualification (if applicable) or Invitation to Tender documents via the In-Tend portal.
