The Environment Agency has issued new guidance to Local Authorities regarding the disposal of materials containing Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs). The guidance states:
"Waste upholstered domestic seating containing POPs must not be:
| • | Landfilled |
| • | Mixed with other non-POPs containing wastes |
| • | Re-used or recycled |
Waste upholstered domestic seating containing POPs must only be:
| • | Sent for incineration, or |
| • | Used as a fuel in for example a cement kiln" |
Leicestershire County Council are running a Soft Market Testing exercise seeking information from the industry to help the Council determine how it should approach the treatment of the above material going forward.
