The University of Leeds is seeking an efficient healthcare waste disposal service to be conducted in an environmentally friendly manner for its main University site in Leeds, and to some of the other smaller outlying sites located in the Leeds area and including sites at, St.James’ Hospital, Tadcaster Farms.
The University is committed to Government objectives of achieving sustainable waste management by:
| • | Reducing the amount of waste produced. |
| • | Selecting waste management options which minimise the risk of environmental pollution and harm to human health. |
| • | Adhering to the hierarchy of waste. |
The University of Leeds in addition recognises the need to manage their waste disposal utilising the ‘best available techniques not entailing excessive cost’
Tenderers are invited to outline how they would help the University achieve these objectives.
The University requires the contractor to undertake the collection and disposal of healthcare waste, in accordance with the specifications, conditions and schedules described herein.
The contractor shall be responsible for the works as defined in the specification.
The waste is to be disposed of by mutually agreed alternative technology or where not appropriate high temperature incineration
