description
Following on from the Rose Review, Better Leadership for Tomorrow (2015) significant attention has been given to the talent management (TM) agenda within the NHS.
In 2016, the NHS National Improvement and Leadership Development Strategic Framework, Developing People - Improving Care was published. This framework represents a vision for improvement, leadership and talent management within the health and social care sector and seeks to guide action on skill building, leadership development and talent management for people in NHS funded roles.
Additionally, the Care Quality Commission Well Led Framework reviews the governance and leadership effectiveness of NHS providers. It asks the question of providers 'Are services well-led?' and focuses on key elements such as leadership capability and capacity, engagement and culture. The framework was updated in 2017 and now also seeks NHS provider organisations to demonstrate and evidence their approach and commitment to talent management, focusing on areas such as succession planning, career development and the quality of appraisals.
