Works at Sandal Castle (Phase 2)

Sandal Castle is owned by the Council and is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The monument has public access provided by the provision of walkways, two wooden bridges, wooden steps to the top of the Keep and a wooden viewing platform.

As part of a programme of works, extensive repairs to the site including the bridges, Keep steps and viewing platform have already been procured during Phase 1 of the project. However, there is also a requirement to undertaken essential stone repairs and mortar works to the monument.

In addition, there is substantial vegetation, saplings and in some cases trees, growing on and around the monument and this is likely to be causing damage to the structures. As a result, the stonemasons will also remove vegetation to access areas needing repair works.
