Background
Attracting bright new talent into land-based business is vital for a sustainable and productive agriculture sector, but new entrants do face barriers.
As set out in the Agricultural Transition Plan we will help address these barriers by providing funding for a new entrant support scheme to provide more opportunities for new entrants to access land, infrastructure and support to establish successful and innovative businesses.
We have been developing the details of the scheme through a co-design process working with organisations and individuals that have the capacity and interest in providing more opportunities for new entrants, as well as other stakeholders.
In January the Secretary of State announced the development of incubator pilots for new entrants to build entrepreneurial capacity and increase their opportunities to access land and finance based on the proposals from the co-design process.
The New Entrants team is commencing market research to ensure we effectively communicate the context and objectives of the pilots, and to gain insight into potential market capability and capacity.
This market engagement does not constitute any commitment by Defra to award funding; however please note that, subject to the outcome of this exercise, a grant funding opportunity is expected to be published in May 2022.
