Thurrock Clinical Commissioning Group are commissioning a Peri-natal Mental Health Peer Support Service on behalf of the following Clinical Commissioning Groups: Thurrock Clinical Commissioning Group, Basildon & Brentwood Clinical Commissioning Group, Castle Point & Rochford Clinical Commissioning Group, Mid Essex Clinical Commissioning Group, North East Essex Clinical Commissioning Group, Southend Clinical Commissioning Group and West Essex Clinical Commissioning Group.

The Peer Support Service expenditure was agreed by all 7 CCG's and MSE MHDB in 2019 within EPUT's Peri natal mental health business case. Additional expenditure to support the test and learn phase of the service was approved in 2020 when all 7 CCG's received ring- fenced non-recurrent funding for Parents 1st to co-produce the pan Essex PNMH Peer Support Service and to deliver the Test and Learn phase of the service development to which this expenditure pertains.

-Parents 1st to deliver the Pan Essex Peer Support service on a Test and Learn basis from January 2021 up to 31st March 2023 and carry out a concurrent evaluation of it's impact.
-Model entails one central coordinator (pan Essex) and 5 local part-time peer support coordinators, each linked to one of the 5 localities of the SPNMH service.
-Service will deliver direct peer support to recipients of the SPNMH service as well as establishing a Collaborative of services across the county who provide support to parents, children, families and communities.
-The evaluation will support the subsequent exploration of different options for the continuation of the service beyond March 2023.
-The Peer Support Service is a vital component in supporting the ambitions for expanding perinatal mental health services in line with the NHS LTP
