description
NHS England (South) is inviting Expressions of Interest from Interested Parties to attend a Market Engagement Event on 18 June 2015, 09:30 to 12:30 in the Hawth Theatre, Hawth Avenue, Crawley, West Sussex RH10 6YZ. This event aims to provide potential Bidders with an opportunity to gain an understanding of the transfer of Custodial Healthcare from Police Forces to the NHS from April 2016.
Potential Bidders with the capacity and capability to deliver safe, cost effective custodial healthcare service(s) in Surrey and Sussex Police Force areas, are therefore encouraged to attend this event.
This is a new commissioning activity for NHS England (South), who wish to co-commission a new model of service delivery that best meets the needs of the populations across the Surrey and Sussex Boarders.
The purpose of a Custodial Healthcare Service is to meet the immediate acute physical and mental healthcare needs of detainees, police personnel, and voluntary attendees to a custody suite (where applicable). The service also provides a forensic and legal medical service. Each custody suite contains a dedicated medical room for the provider to undertake these duties. There are also occasional requirements to travel outside of the custody (i.e. to an A&E to recover blood samples). The services were traditionally carried out by a doctor but further to recent changes in legislation, can now also be carried out by any healthcare professional including nurses, paramedics and emergency care practitioners. The development of onward referral pathways to relevant services such as A&E, substance misuse, and mental health services form part of the service specification.
Surrey Police Force and Sussex Police Force are intending to enter into a joint procurement exercise for the provision of services as two separate lots with financial envelopes of £1.2m - £1.4m per annum and £1.5 - £1.8m per annum respectively.
The Market Engagement Event will provide the opportunity to:
-Share the current vision and commissioning intentions for Surrey and Sussex -Gather views and comments from a range of providers and interested parties -Stimulate interest from the market
