description

Newcastle University has long-running and successful research programmes on Process Intensification, investigating and developing new technology for bio-fuels, bio renewable chemicals, CO2 capture and conversion and pharmaceutical processes.

Process development and intensification for liquid-liquid-solid bio refining applications are an integral part of such programmes and capacity increase through acquisition of an agitated cell-reactor system is the envisaged solution. By "Agitated Cell" we mean a continuous flow reactor in which the cell itself (i.e. the entire reactor cell) is moving cyclically at a set frequency to create the mixing effect inside the reactor in conjunction with insets inside the reactor cell , by opposition to typical stirred cells in which a stirrer inside the cell is the moving part that agitates and mixes the fluid, and by opposition to oscillatory flow reactors (e.g. oscillatory baffled reactors) in which it is the oscillation in flow rate/flow direction that created the mixing.

This project has received funding from the Bio Based Industries Joint Undertaking (JU) under grant agreement No 887226. The JU receives support from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and the Bio Based Industries Consortium.

The scope of this contract is for the supply, delivery and installation of equipment as detailed in the ITT to the University, with a minimum 12 months warranty.
