description

The project aims to develop a systems map to provide an overarching picture of UK marine monitoring delivery requirements and the relevant governance structures therein. The project will extend to conducting high-level critical analysis of the developed systems map, to identify prominent opportunities and challenges for the effective delivery and transformation of marine monitoring in the UK.

The systems mapping work will form a foundational piece of a longer-term workstream to transform marine monitoring. In particular, the systems map will help Defra identify key parameters of monitoring programmes which should be investigated in a future audit of marine monitoring.

Collectively, this will allow Defra to begin driving strategic decisions on marine monitoring from a firm basis of understanding on existing programmes, their motivations, and their interactions.

The primary outputs of the project will be:

  1. Systems map of marine monitoring in the UK. The systems map should be dynamic allowing the resource to be adjusted by Defra in future (for example, a Miro Board).
  2. Report to accompany the systems map, providing narrative and context including high-level analysis of opportunities and challenges for the effective delivery and transformation of marine monitoring in the UK
