15-008 Translation & Interpretation services

• oprovide Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council and it's partners with interpretation, translation and alternative formats of communication services. Rotherham require the provision of telephone interpretation in a wide variety of languages over the telephone, either for customers present in one of our offices or who are calling us from elsewhere. The interpretation will need to be of a high quality and by interpreters who have a good familiarity and understanding of local authority services. The telephone interpretation should be available quickly and consistently. Rotherham requires face to face interpretation in a wide variety of languages and situations -these tend to be where the subject matter is more complex and the discussions more involved. In some circumstances the face to face interpretation may be more informal, for instance at community meetings. The languages required include, Albanian, Arabic, British Sign Language, Mandarin, Czech, Farsi, Hungarian, Kurdish, Lingala. Lithuanian, Mirpuri dialect, Oromo, Polish, Punjabi, Pashto, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Somali, Urdu. Rotherham also has a large number of disabled people in the Borough, many of whom have a range of communication access needs. These include the provision of information in Large Print, on Audio Tape, Braille, and interpretation in British Sign Language (and other communication methods used by Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Deaf Blind People). We also provide information in Easy Read for people with learning Disability/Difficulty/ and low levels of literacy.
