The equipment must be appropriate for bio-science applications in the field of electron microscopy. Features should include:

  • Easy and safe handling of the square as well as the finished knives.
  • Mechanical construction to achieve a balanced break.
  • Vibrations free casting.
  • Should be delivered ready to score and break the glass for every operation without any adjustment of micrometre drivers prior to each break.
  • Equipment should intrinsically allow for symmetrical breaking; this should be very precise with no backlash.
  • Breaking head should be via a clamping lever with defined clamping position.
  • Simplicity of score action of glass if possible, with and auto reset for the next score.
  • Breaking head which applies symmetrical force to both side of the glass.
  • Breaking wheel with scale.
  • High precision glass strip support.
  • Facility to rotate the glass square precisely to help ensure high quality knives.
  • Easy access of scoring pressure adjustment.
  • Fast learning curve - very easy to learn and use.
  • Any system to avoid accidental misalignment is preferred.
