7317 Skills needs in Buildings History and Gardens History 2016

Buildings History and Garden History are defined as the study of buildings and gardens and their structural and stylistic evolution. Both use techniques from archaeology, architectural history and science based disciplines to analyse and define the structural development and changing use across time of historic buildings and gardens. This survey is being commissioned to establish the level of existing activity, the current state of training provision and the likely future market for practitioners of buildings history and garden history. The survey should cover disciplines presently referred to variously as architectural history, buildings history and buildings archaeology, garden history and garden archaeology. The project is jointly financed by Historic England, Historic Environment Scotland and Historic Environment Service of Wales (Cadw) and will cover the United Kingdom.
