Brief Description of the Service Requirements

Operating as a preventative and a clinical programme that focuses on behaviour change; Sandwell Stop Smoking Service has a vision of enhancing health and wellbeing, improving physical and psychological quality of life and reducing the risk of disease and illness in individuals, families and communities.

The new Sandwell Stop Smoking Service aims to be an efficiently delivered universal service which prioritises the needs of smokers and oral tobacco users in our population that need the service the most.

Core to service delivery is innovation and flexibility to respond to emerging developments such as advances in technologies, new research findings and newly identified needs.

It is expected that at the start, there will be 3 elements to service delivery:

  • oTraining, that adheres to recommended standards, to make every contact that frontline staffs have with clients count. The success of this will be measured by the number and quality of referrals made to the service
  • oEngagement of key stakeholders in the tobacco control and smoking cessation agenda. This success of this will be measured by the number of individuals, groups and communities engaged by the service provider to facilitate positive developments to increase the number of smokers treated and to reduce the prevalence of smoking in Sandwell.
  • oIntensive cessation support that is delivered to high quality standards by adequately trained persons.
